About Essential Oils

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential Oils are volatile liquids that are within many shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds and that is usually extracted through steam distillation.  Essential oils can be inhaled, applied to the skin, or ingested in foods or beverages, for therapeutic purposes in aromatherapy.

The molecules that are in essential oils travel in your blood and within your brain barrier. These will have an impact on your brain which does control your stress, feelings, depression, etc. and when you smell essential oils, your brain will trigger different impulses. This is done through the olfactory nerve. This nerve connects with the olfactory bulb, so this bulb will send the information it gets and relays a message which will control your emotions. This could be anything from pain, mood, or pleasure. This will then trigger an emotion which could be fear, happiness, sadness, and etc.

HISTORY OF ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential oils have been utilized since ancient times in various cultures, including China, India Southern Europe, and Egypt.  In recorded history, the Egyptians, who were the first to build a large scale civilize culture, used essential oils as far back as 4500 B.C. (curioushistory.com/essential-oils, 2019).  Essential oils have been documented during the Biblical days and most notable when the wise men brought the gift of gold, frankincense and myrrh for the baby Jesus.  Essential oils are now on the rise for health and wellness usage.

BENEFITS OF ESSENTIAL OILS

THE MISSING LINK IN MODERN MEDICINE

Daniel. H. Kress, M.D. Author of The Cost to Society of Cigarettes: A Century of Analysis, Ulcers and Smoking, stated “Drugs never cure disease. They merely hush the voice of nature’s protest and pull down the danger signals she erects along the pathway of transgression. Any drugs taken into the system has to be reckoned with later on even though it may relieve present symptoms. Pain may disappear, but the patient is left in a worse condition, though unconscious of it at the time.”

Relative to pharmaceuticals, essential oils are much more economical, do not have adverse side effects, and address the root cause of symptoms.  Also, essential oils work very quickly as the oils gets absorbed through the skin and the lungs.  Essential oils may be used topically (with a carrier oil) or in a diffuser, which triggers responses in the brain that send healing to the body.

Essential oils have been used for hundreds of years for many reasons, including health and wellness.  Essential oils are being used today by many for meditation, stress relief, depression, anxiety, PTSD, pain, severe headaches, and etc.  Many people desire a more natural healing to medicines and have found the use of essential oils to be a great alternative.

The most popular essential oil in the world today is Lavender.  Compounds contained in the oil have many beneficial to include antifungal, antimicrobial, and antibiotic effects.  In addition to relieving anxiety and pain, lavender oil can help reduce physiological signs of stress. In a study of 20 healthy volunteers Thai researchers compared Lavender to sweet almond oil. They measured the subjects’ blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and skin temperature to determine the level of stress in the autonomic nervous system.

In addition, subjects were asked to estimate their mood responses such as feeling pleasant or unpleasant, uncomfortable, sensual, relaxed, or refreshed. The results revealed that inhaling lavender oil caused significant decreases in blood pressure, heart rate, and skin temperature. In addition, the lavender group said they felt more active, fresher, and more relaxed than the almond oil group.

There is a diversity of essential oils such as Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Thyme, Tea Tree, Roman Chamomile, Sweet Orange, and so many more with many benefits that can be a great blessing upon any user’s life.  Take this journey of health and wellness lifestyle to experience what God has given us for our natural healing.

When under a doctor’s care, talk first to him/her before beginning any new essential oils usage especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.  It’s important to use essential oils that are 100 percent pure. While most oils are safe for children and pets, please do proper research and review with your pedestrian and veterinarian.
